Watercolor Fall Leaves

My son and I take frequent walks as part of our homeschooling curriculum, in order to get out of the house and have a chance to talk and get some fresh air.  We like talking about the seasonal changes in the neighborhood, and say hi to the local dogs and cats. We have crow friends we greet, and we look out for new and interesting developments. New mushrooms sprout up overnight and are gone in a few days. We have chronicled a rotting banana, and hypothesized how long it would take for it to be completely gone.

Here in the Pacific Northwest, this time of year is a brief glory of color as the rain knocks the changing colors off the trees just about as fast as they can turn color, so we get only a few days to admire the colors of fall. Leaves tumble around the ground, and are quickly rained on and sit in soggy piles. You have to be intentional to find dry, crunchy leaves; so a walk on a sunny, breezy day was a perfect day to go on a leaf hunt.

We found almost every shade of color on our walk, and came home with a handful of inspiration. While my son colored his leaves, I painted some of my own.
